Chiltrix Domestic Water Heating Official ENERGYGUIDE Tank Labels

In addition to space heating and cooling, an extra feature of the Chiltrix award winning and record-setting air to water heat pumps is high efficiency water heating. A 3-way valve allows the Chiltrix unit to automatically provide domestic water heating by taking a brief pause from space heating or cooling to quickly bring the DHW (Domestic Hot Water) tank to the target temperature, and then resume its primary task of space heating or cooling.

This feature leverages the high COP of the Chiltrix heat pump unit and provides water heating with up to more than FIVE TIMES higher efficiency than a tank with standard electric element water heating, providing up to more than 70% energy savings as compared to a standard electric water heater. This means you can get up to more than 70-80% of your annual water heating for free.

The line-up of Chiltrix Domestic Hot Water Systems leads the water heating industry in first-hour ratings and EUF (efficiency) ratings.

Yes, Chiltrix now has officially set
ANOTHER WORLD'S RECORD.

This time it's for water heating, and actually Chiltrix has set several new world's records for water heating. Leading the way is the Chiltrix Hitzewelle CX65DHW105RIDNR, using a 99 galllon tank with a CX65 that has achieved an unprecedented UEF 5.48 (the highest efficiency rating among all residential water heaters) with a First-Hour Rating of 117 Gallons.

Note For Calififornia Customers: In California you can achive the same UEF and first-hour rating by ordering the heat pump and tank seperately, but due to CA regulations, you cannot order the model number that combines both the heat pump and the tank, they would be ordered as seperate items that can then be installed together. There is no pricing difference, however, Energy Guide labels are therefore not available for customers in California.

Yes, we broke their rating system.

You will notice from the official labels that several Chiltrix configurations have an Estimated Yearly Energy Cost that are so low that some of them are (literally) off the scale provided by DOE. And you can compare the official ratings of all brands and models of certified water heaters at the U.S. Department of Energy Compliance Certification Database where you can see how Chiltrix compares to all others in First-Hour delivery and Uniform Energy Factor (UEF).

What is a Reverse Indirect Tank?

In a standard indirect tank, the water to be heated flows into the tank (via the cold water inlet) and the heat pump connects to the coil, the heated coil transfers heat to the tank contents. With a reverse indirect tank, the water to be heated (cold water inlet) flows into the coil and the heat pump heats the tank contents. With a reverse indirect, the tank content water is part of the hydronic heat pump closed loop system. The coil and water flowing through are heated by the tank contents. See Reverse Indirect Water Heater tank information here.

What is UEF?

UEF (Uniform Energy Factor) is the official metric established by the U.S. Department of Energy (US DOE) to rate the energy efficiency of residential water heaters. Beginning in June 2017 the UEF rating replaced the former Energy Factor (EF) rating so as to provide a more accurate, "apples-to-apples" comparison of how different water heaters perform in real-world conditions.
