The chart above shows how overshoot of the backup heat source lowers the percentage of total heat applied by the compressor, increasing the amount of low efficiency backup heat used.

COP=Coefficient of Performance (Efficiency). Ambient temperature range is a55 to a15. Compressor provided heat is COP 2.61 to COP 4.45 across this ambient range. Backup resistance heat at all temperatures is COP 0.97.See CX34 heat pump heating peformance map.

The chart below shows how the V18 dynamically modulating heater improves the fraction of compressor-supplied heat and results in higher average COP during backup heat conditions.

Charts above are based on 2,000 ft^2 ICF reference building, ACCA Manual J Version 2.5, heating design temperatures in 5 ⁰F increments from 15 ⁰F to 55 ⁰F.
