A Smarter, Cleaner Way to Heat and Cool

How a Chiltrix Air-to-Water Heat Pump System Works:
A Chiltrix hydronic heat pump is a little different from a traditional “Air to Air” based unit. The heat pump(s) are located outdoors, but that’s where the similarity begins to fade away. The indoor equipment may include any combination of radiant zones, a wide variety of ducted air handlers, ductless fan coil units, and a domestic hot water tank, all set up to provide the heating, cooling, and domestic water heating needed in the home.

The indoor and outdoor components are connected to each other by flexible insulated PEX water lines, usually with a buffer tank in between. Not only is the Chiltrix system much more efficient and flexible than a traditional system, the outdoor unit is factory-sealed & tested, and delivered as a fully self-contained appliance ready for connection. 100% of the refrigerant stays outdoors and outside of the building envelope, with no refrigerant ever indoors – an important safety benefit considering the potential hazards associated with today’s refrigerants.

The Chiltrix system holds officially certified world records for efficiency in heating, cooling, and water heating. There is no air to water heat pump in the market with higher efficiency in any category. In the summer, it works as a chilled-water system, a miniature version of the same systems used in large office buildings for intensive cooling and strong dehumidification. In the winter, the heat pump acts as a compressor-powered boiler, delivering 2–6 times more heat output per unit of energy input (a COP of 2–6) compared to a boiler. And all year long, it can make domestic hot water with a DOE-Certified record-setting UEF up to 4.95 and up to 133 gallons First-Hour Ratings.
